From: nietgal@airmail.net (Ethel Jean Saltz) Subject: Music History It's my impression that in 450CE, the Church destroyed all prior music documentation. So we have fragments today of Greek music including some complete plays. This is not an unusual power play. On the clari.net.living it has an article that tells what happened in history in classical music on a daily basis. On 7/23 it points out that the Ayatollah took over Iran and immediately declared music to be heretical. He stated that music motivates personal emotion and sense of self-power. This is probably what the Church did in 450CE. It controlled almost 3/4 of the last 2000 years. So we westerners are still influenced by this. You know, the Jewish scribes when deciding what would go into the formal holy scriptures left a lot of documentation. However they didn't destroy it. They hid these documents in the geneezah (hidden) place in the Temple. Geneezah is translated into Apocrypha in Greek. The Church decided to include the Apocrypha as part of their bible. Thus the Church preserved hidden Jewish documents. Among these documents is the story of Khanookah. So it might be that the Church never did destroy these ancient music documents but have them hidden in the Vatican vaults. There is absolutely no way to find this out.
